U.S. Regulators Miss July 18 Deadline for GENIUS Act Stablecoin Rules

According to The Block, U.S. regulators failed to finalize stablecoin rules required by the GENIUS Act by the July 18 deadline. The act, signed by President Trump on July 18, 2025, mandated that the OCC, Federal Reserve, FDIC, NCUA, Treasury Department, and state stablecoin regulators complete implementing rules by July 18, 2026. As of that date, major proposals from the OCC, FDIC, NCUA, and Treasury remained in proposal stage, with some rules still undergoing public comment periods. The act contained no provision for deadline extensions or suspension of framework implementation, meaning critical stablecoin rules will now be finalized after the statutory deadline.
