U.S. Man Indicted for Planting Malware in 8 Steam Games to Steal Crypto; 8,000 Devices Infected, $220K Lost

According to BlockBeats and FBI documents, on July 18, the U.S. Attorney's Office indicted 21-year-old Zyaire Wilkins from Florida for distributing malware through at least eight Steam games between May 2024 and February 2026. The scheme infected approximately 8,000 devices, compromised around 80 crypto wallets, and resulted in losses exceeding $220,000. The malware, spread via Discord, Telegram, X, and LinkedIn, stole victims' sensitive information and drained cryptocurrency assets. FBI investigators traced the suspect through blockchain fund flows and digital payment records, discovering his associated crypto wallet had purchased over 150 gift cards on Bitrefill, including Uber Eats cards, ultimately leading to identification of his phone number and address. The case has been filed in U.S. District Court for the Western District of Washington.
