According to CoinDesk, on Friday (May 16), U.S. House members Glenn Thompson (R-PA) and Angie Craig (D-MN) urged President Trump to nominate four new Commodity Futures Trading Commission commissioners, with two from each party. The CFTC is currently led solely by chairman Mike Selig, a Republican. Both parties’ leaders on the oversight committee believe a complete five-member board will better serve the public, particularly as the agency takes on expanded cryptocurrency regulatory responsibilities under proposed rules and the Clarity Act advancing in the Senate.
