According to WIRED, CFTC Chair Michael Selig disclosed the agency has deployed artificial intelligence technology to monitor insider trading on prediction markets including Polymarket. Over the past year, multiple traders on Polymarket have been suspected of using non-public information to place bets on geopolitical events such as a Venezuelan raid and an Iran conflict. A U.S. Special Forces soldier was previously arrested for allegedly using classified intelligence to profit from bets on former Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro’s capture on Polymarket, marking the first criminal insider trading case tied to prediction markets in the United States.
