According to UNDP, on July 6, 2026, the United Nations Development Programme and the Stellar Development Foundation expanded their partnership agreement through 2027 to establish blockchain-based aid payments as a standard capability across UNDP's global country offices. The collaboration will develop governance frameworks, implementation guidelines, and operational standards for blockchain-enabled humanitarian programs.
Pilot programs across 17 countries, including Haiti, Syria, Kenya, Guatemala, and The Gambia, demonstrated measurable improvements. In Syria's Aleppo region, blockchain payments reduced distribution costs from approximately 10% to 2% under traditional banking channels. Haiti's trial achieved a 100% payment success rate, with blockchain creating permanent digital records of transactions for donor accountability and verification.
