UK Hits 36.1°C, France Breaks Average Temperature Record on June 25 as Heat Wave Sweeps Western Europe

According to meteorological agencies, a heat wave swept across western Europe on Wednesday, June 25, with the UK recording its hottest June day and France setting a new average temperature record. The UK's Met Office reported that southern England, specifically Gosport, reached a high of 36.1 degrees Celsius. France's average temperature hit 30 degrees Celsius, surpassing the previous day's record. France has placed 72 departments under red heat alert status—a record—while the UK, Germany, and Switzerland also issued similar warnings. Meteorologists attributed the extreme heat to a combination of high-pressure systems and developing El Niño atmospheric changes.
