On May 21, the UK government released historical documents and confirmed that Prince Andrew, the King's younger brother, underwent no formal background check before being appointed as UK trade envoy in 2001. According to a written statement to Parliament by Minister for Trade Chris Bryant, no evidence exists of any formal due diligence or security review procedures being carried out at the time, nor was such investigation considered.
