UK Forces Intercept Russian Shadow Fleet Oil Tanker in English Channel for First Time

According to Sir Keir Starmer on June 14, UK forces intercepted a Russian shadow fleet oil tanker in the English Channel for the first time, in a six-hour operation led by Royal Marine commandos and National Crime Agency officers.

The Ministry of Defence confirmed the vessel, Smyrtos, was boarded and will be provisioned off England's south coast. Defence Secretary Dan Jarvis stated the operation "delivers a blow to Putin's illegal war" by targeting Russia's shadow fleet funding for the Ukraine conflict.
