Trump Says US-Iran Agreement Aims to Avert Global Economic Recession

According to Axios, on June 18, U.S. President Trump said his negotiations to reach a memorandum of understanding with Iran were designed to prevent conflict from triggering a global economic recession. Trump warned that continuing airstrikes on Iranian targets would close the Strait of Hormuz, disrupting global oil supplies. "If we keep bombing, that strait closes automatically. We wouldn't get oil for months," Trump stated. He added that such action could spark a global economic downturn, and expressed concern over potential depletion of global oil reserves.
