Trump Demands Iran Dilute Enriched Uranium Within 60 Days, Delays Deal in Late May

According to Axios, on May 29 following a White House situation room meeting, Trump added two additional demands to Iran nuclear negotiations, delaying an expected agreement. The new requirements include Iran diluting its enriched uranium stockpile within 60 days and pledging not to charge transit fees for vessels passing through the Strait of Hormuz. In exchange, Trump agreed to allow uranium enrichment to occur within Iran under International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) supervision. Iran's Foreign Minister Araghchi requested four to five days to respond but the standoff extended nearly two weeks, sources and U.S. officials said. The delay has been compounded by disagreements over asset unfreezing: Iran seeks partial release of frozen assets upfront, while Trump insists on Iran fulfilling agreement obligations first.
