Tether Invests $20 Million in Mercado Bitcoin to Expand Latam On-Chain Infrastructure

According to Tether's official disclosure, the stablecoin company invested $20 million in Mercado Bitcoin as part of a strategic financing round that also included SoftBank. The Brazilian financial services platform, which serves over 4.5 million customers, will use the capital to expand its payments infrastructure, tokenized asset offerings, and on-chain capital markets across Latin America. Tether CEO Paolo Ardoino noted that Mercado Bitcoin is "one of the most comprehensive regulated on-chain financial platforms in Latin America." The investment comes as Brazil advances stablecoin regulations, providing clearer rules for companies moving financial operations on-chain.
