Specialty Optical Fiber Prices Surge 10-Fold in Past Year Amid Supply Shortage

GateNews

In the first quarter of 2026, specialty optical fiber product shipment prices increased 10-fold over the past year while remaining in short supply. Order volume grew four-fold, but capacity constraints limited shipments to only a two-fold increase, requiring customers to pay deposits to secure capacity.

Optical module exports also grew significantly, rising 30% year-over-year in Q1. A 1.6T optical module produced by a Wuhan-based manufacturer emerged as the most sought-after product overseas, capable of transmitting the equivalent of 95 two-gigabyte movies per second, with unit pricing around 1,000 US dollars.
