The U.S. Space Force officially finalized a $2.29 billion firm-fixed-price contract with SpaceX to develop and deploy the Space Data Network Backbone, a specialized satellite constellation for military communications. Under contract terms, SpaceX must deliver a fully operational prototype by the end of 2027. The network will utilize optically interconnected low Earth orbit satellites to enable real-time tactical data transmission across global defense operations, integrating with the Space Development Agency's existing Transport Layer infrastructure.
