According to Bloomberg, SpaceX and Charter Communications, the largest U.S. home internet service provider, are in discussions to launch consumer mobile phone service. Sources indicate Charter could carry some of SpaceX's mobile traffic through its ground network infrastructure, similar to its current Spectrum Mobile model.
SpaceX President Gwynne Shotwell told CNBC that Starlink Mobile will significantly exceed the scale of Starlink home broadband service. The company has also secured AWS-3 mobile spectrum licenses and continues building infrastructure for direct-to-consumer mobile offerings, according to Financial Times reporting. Currently, SpaceX offers Starlink Mobile through a partnership with T-Mobile US for $10 per month in remote areas.
