South Korea's Tourism Deficit with Japan Hits Record $5.7B in 2025

According to South Korea's central bank, the country's tourism deficit with Japan reached a record $5.7054 billion in 2025, the highest since 1998. Tourism receipts were $2.7373 billion while Korean residents' spending on trips to Japan totaled $8.4427 billion. The central bank attributed the widening deficit to record numbers of Korean tourists visiting Japan, driven by the weak yen and the full recovery of international flight routes following the pandemic.
