South Korea's Major Insurers Raise Policy Loan Rates to 4.33%, Up 1.6% Since January

According to Yonhapinfomax, as of June 2026, South Korea's top five property insurers raised their average policy loan rate to 3.96%, up 1.6 percentage points since January, while the five major life insurers' average rate hit 4.33%. Samsung Fire, DB Insurance, Hyundai Marine, KB Insurance, and Meritz Fire led the increases among property insurers, with Samsung Fire charging the highest at 4.22%. Life insurers including Samsung Life, Kyobo Life, Hanwha Life, Shinhan Life, and NH Nonghyup Life followed a similar trend. Despite the increases, policy loan rates remain over 1 percentage point lower than bank credit loan rates, suggesting continued borrowing growth amid stock market gains.
