South Korea Margin Lending Surges 4.2 Trillion Won in Q2 as KOSPI Rallies

According to the Financial Investment Association, South Korea's margin financing balances reached 37.32 trillion won as of end-June 2026, up 13.4% from 32.92 trillion won at end-March. The 4.4 trillion won increase reflects strong retail investor leverage activity during Q2, when the KOSPI index surged 59% for the quarter. The KOSPI market saw margin financing rise by 6.7 trillion won, while the KOSDAQ market declined by 2.3 trillion won over the same period, reflecting differing performance between the two indices.
