According to Korea Securities Depository, South Korean retail investors purchased SK Hynix American Depositary Receipts (ADRs) worth $264.91 million in net buys over the past week (July 21-27), ranking first among all overseas stock trades. Since the ADR listing on July 10, cumulative net purchases have reached $812.39 million, maintaining the top position.
The ADR trades at a significant premium to the domestic stock. The ADR peaked at a 52% premium to the underlying shares shortly after listing and currently trades at a 33.2% premium. Retail investors are drawn by lower entry costs—ADR shares cost roughly one-tenth the price of domestic shares—and expectations that the premium will persist, citing the example of Taiwan's TSMC ADR, which has maintained a long-term 13% average premium.
