According to French Secretary of State for Energy Maud Bregeon on May 26, seven people have died directly or indirectly from heat wave effects in France. The country's meteorological agency recorded its highest-ever May temperature the previous day. Among the seven fatalities, five drowned in lakes, rivers, or beaches.
