Samsung Electronics union representatives announced on Wednesday that wage negotiations with the company have failed, with over 50,000 employees planning a full strike beginning May 21. The strike, planned to last 18 days, could disrupt production of artificial intelligence chips and other semiconductors. According to union representative Choi Seung-ho, the company rejected the union’s demands to reform compensation, including removing the annual bonus cap currently set at 50% of base salary. South Korea’s National Labor Relations Commission ended mediation efforts, citing the wide gap between both sides’ positions.
