Samsung Becomes Largest Borrower Among Korean Companies, Joins 42 Firms in Debt Assessment Program

According to South Korea's Financial Supervisory Service, Samsung emerged as the largest borrower among Korean companies as of end-2025. As of that date, 42 Korean enterprises with borrowings exceeding 2.56 trillion won (approximately $1.92 billion USD) were designated as primary debtor groups requiring financial structure assessments by creditor banks. The top five borrowers are Samsung, Hyundai Motor, SK Hynix, Lotte, and LG.
