Russia Closes Romania's Consulate in Saint Petersburg, Declares Consul Persona Non Grata

Russia's Foreign Ministry announced on June 25 that it has declared Romania's consul general in Saint Petersburg persona non grata and will close the consulate. The ministry summoned Romania's ambassador to Russia, Istrate, and delivered a formal note. The move is a reciprocal response to Romania's earlier closure of Russia's consulate in Constanta and expulsion of its consul.
