On July 6, 2026, Pick n Pay asap! will launch Penny, an AI-powered grocery shopping assistant built on Google's multimodal Gemini AI. Available in the latest version of the app, Penny allows customers to build shopping baskets through voice, text, or photo inputs without manual product searches.

The assistant supports multilingual voice notes, handwritten shopping list photos, recipe ingredient uploads, meal planning, and personalized product recommendations integrated with the Smart Shopper loyalty program. Customers can request recipes and instantly add ingredients to their basket, with real-time substitution suggestions.
