Pi Network announced on its official website on June 11 that Pi Launchpad has released an improved participation process and an updated model, and officially launched the second test token, SLICE, on the testnet. The testing period will run until Pi2Day on June 28. This update is based on data and feedback from the first testnet token, IRRA: during the IRRA period, more than 478,000 pioneer members participated.
IRRA confirms data: three major issues trigger improvements
According to Pi Network’s official announcement, the verification data collected for the first test token, IRRA, shows:
Participation scale:More than 478,000 pioneer members staked 36.05 million Test-Pi; more than 198,000 pioneers committed 14.72 million Test-Pi; 11.71 million Test-Pi pledged were staked as 10 million tokens
Issue 1:Some pioneers found it difficult to understand the relationship between staking and commitment, and how it affects outcomes
Issue 2:Sequential operations led to drop-offs mid-way—staking was completed but commitment was not, or the committed amount was relatively insufficient compared with the staked amount
Issue 3:The initial release introduced too many complex steps about how staking and commitment interact
Improved participation process: core changes
According to Pi Network’s official explanation, SLICE adopts the following updated confirmation mechanism:
Commitment as the core:First, pioneers choose the amount of committed Test-Pi. Launchpad then automatically calculates the related “Fair Access Holding” (i.e., the previous version’s staking/PiPower) based on a fixed formula, and before confirmation it displays the committed amount, holding amount, and total amount all at once.
Two transactions completed on a single screen:The two transactions are submitted sequentially on the same screen, eliminating the cross-screen operation flow from the previous version.
Deterministic curve:The model changes from fully dynamic adjustment to using a deterministic curve to control the ratio between holding and commitment, reducing variable factors.
Fair access holding mechanism:The larger the commitment amount, the higher the required holding amount, aiming to protect the participation opportunities of small-amount committers. After the holding period ends, Pi is returned to the pioneer’s account.
Other confirmation updates:Participation rewards are expressed as percentages (not discounts); the details page is simplified from a three-page pivot to a single scrollable page.

Frequently asked questions
How is the SLICE test token different from IRRA?
According to Pi Network’s official announcement, IRRA connects to a demo program, while SLICE connects to a real-running third-party application, Slice of Pi, enabling Pi Launchpad to collect real user interaction data. Both tokens are testnet tokens, and confirmations will never be launched on the mainnet.
How does the fair access holding mechanism protect small participants?
According to Pi Network’s official explanation, the holding requirement increases with the committed amount in steps (non-linear), meaning large-amount committers need to hold more Pi, thereby lowering the risk that “whales” dominate the share of small participants. After the holding period ends, all held Pi is returned to the participating pioneer account, with no transfers involved.
When does the SLICE test cutoff happen, and how do I participate?
The token issuance and confirmation for the SLICE test continues until Pi2Day on June 28, 2026. How to participate: open Pi Browser, enter the Pi Launchpad app, select the committed Test-Pi amount. After Launchpad automatically calculates the holding amount, complete the confirmation and payment flow on a single screen, then participate in the Slice of Pi application.
