Pentagon Uses AI to Write Congressional Reports, Cutting 200 Hours of Work to 5 Hours

According to Pentagon CTO Emil Michael at a Hudson Institute event on June 12, the US Department of Defense is using generative AI tools to draft congressionally mandated reports. Michael stated the AI approach reduces report preparation from 200 staffing hours to approximately 5 hours.

The Pentagon made AI tools, including Google Cloud's Gemini for Government, widely available to all six military branches through its GenAI.mil platform starting in December 2025.
