OpenAI's Altman Acknowledges Token Costs as 'Major Problem,' Reveals 1M-Fold Surge in Top User Spending on June 2

On June 2, Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, acknowledged that artificial intelligence token costs have become a major challenge during the 'Intelligence at Work' event. Altman revealed that 6.5 years ago, the world's highest token-consuming user spent 100,000 tokens monthly; today, that figure equals the global average. The top user now consumes 100 billion tokens per month, representing a one-million-fold increase. Altman stated that OpenAI aims to make AI a basic infrastructure like water and electricity, enabling users to access it without worrying about costs.
