OpenAI Posts $39 Billion Loss in 2025, Driven Mostly by Non-Cash Charges

According to Financial Times, OpenAI's loss for 2025 reached approximately $39 billion, up from about $5 billion in 2024, with most of the increase attributed to non-cash accounting charges rather than operational deterioration. Excluding non-cash items such as employee stock compensation and computing resources provided by Microsoft, the adjusted loss was $8 billion.

OpenAI reported 2025 revenue of approximately $13 billion against total expenses of $34 billion, including $19 billion in research and development spending.
