OpenAI Maps 2028 Milestone for AI to Collaborate on Most Research Work

According to Sam Altman and Jakub Pachocki, OpenAI unveiled a long-term roadmap on Monday targeting three core goals: building automated AI researchers, accelerating global economic growth, and enabling personal AGI access for everyone. By March 2028, the company aims to have AI systems collaborating with human researchers to complete most R&D work. Altman cautioned that full automation risks both meaning and safety, emphasizing humans must retain the core role of deciding what work deserves pursuit. OpenAI also outlined plans for a global coordination body similar to the International Atomic Energy Agency to prevent power concentration and establish shared safety standards.
