OpenAI Launches GPT-5.6 on July 9: Sol Model Priced at $5/$30 per 1M Tokens, Tops Benchmarks with 91.9%

According to Bloomberg, OpenAI launches the GPT-5.6 model family on July 9, featuring three tiers: Sol (flagship, $5 input / $30 output per million tokens), Terra (balanced performance at half Sol's cost), and Luna (high-speed, low-cost option). In the Terminal-Bench 2.1 programming benchmark, GPT-5.6 Sol Ultra scored 91.9%, followed by Sol at 88.8%, outpacing Claude Mythos 5 (88.0%) and significantly ahead of Gemini 3.1 Pro Preview (70.7%). OpenAI also announced Sol will be deployed on Cerebras hardware in July, achieving up to 750 tokens per second inference speed. The release includes Max reasoning intensity for deeper computations and Ultra mode for multi-agent coordination on complex tasks.
