U.S. Commerce Department Approves OpenAI to Broadly Launch GPT-5.6 This Week

According to Axios, the U.S. Commerce Department has approved OpenAI to broadly roll out its GPT-5.6 model this week. OpenAI has completed additional safety testing and held multiple meetings with U.S. government officials ahead of the launch. Previously, the company was only permitted to release GPT-5.6 in phases to select government-approved institutions.
