According to Novo Nordisk, the European Medicines Agency (EMA) Committee for Medicinal Products for Human Use (CHMP) recommended approval of Wegovy oral tablets for chronic weight management today (May 22), becoming the EU's first approved oral GLP-1 therapy. Clinical trial data showed that obese or overweight patients achieved an average weight reduction of 16.6% with treatment adherence, comparable to the injection formulation, with one-third of patients losing more than 20% of body weight. The drug label includes data demonstrating reduced cardiovascular adverse event risk and carries no medication interaction restrictions. Novo Nordisk plans to launch the product in select markets outside the U.S. during the second half of 2026.
