Nearly 200 Silicon Valley Startups Urge Trump Against Broad Ban on Chinese AI Models

According to Politico, nearly 200 Silicon Valley startups issued a joint letter to President Trump on July 25 urging the U.S. government to avoid broad restrictions on American access to Chinese artificial intelligence models. The startups, organized under a newly formed "Small Tech Association," warned that sweeping restrictions could stifle the next generation of American companies and hand competitors a monopolistic advantage.

Many early-stage startups rely on lower-cost Chinese AI models to develop products, as they cannot afford the high fees charged by Anthropic and OpenAI. The group called for targeted safeguards rather than blanket bans, arguing such measures would undermine U.S. startup competitiveness without preventing Chinese AI models from spreading in other markets.
