MLCC Shortages Expand Beyond AI Chips, Supply Gap May Extend to 2027-2028

According to Jin10 data on June 15, MLCC (multilayer ceramic capacitor) shortages have expanded beyond AI-specific chips to affect mainstream specifications across multiple product categories. Passive component manufacturer Walsin Technology noted that the most severely constrained specifications include 47μF, while high-capacity variants commonly used in smartphones and PCs—such as 10μF, 22μF, and X5R—are also experiencing supply pressure due to AI-driven orders straining production at Japanese and South Korean manufacturers. Industry channels estimate the shortage could persist through 2027 or even 2028, potentially surpassing the 2018 passive component shortage.
