Mirae Asset Global Investments and Ondo Finance signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) on the 16th to collaborate on exchange-traded fund (ETF) tokenization and the development of digital investment products. The partnership aims to build a tokenized finance ecosystem based on virtual assets, covering ETF tokenization, on-chain asset management infrastructure, and digital investment products targeting global investors. Globally, traditional financial assets such as government bonds, funds, and real estate are increasingly being issued as blockchain-based tokens, with institutional asset managers including BlackRock and Franklin Templeton actively entering the tokenization market.
Mirae Asset Global Investments announced on the 16th that it signed an MOU with Ondo Finance, a global real-world asset (RWA) platform company, to develop virtual asset-based investment products and build a tokenized finance ecosystem. The two companies plan to cooperate in ETF tokenization, on-chain asset management infrastructure construction, and the development of digital investment products for global investors.
Ondo Finance operates tokenized products based on US Treasury bonds, including USDY and OUSG, and is a leading RWA company. According to the company, Ondo Global Markets, a tokenized stock and ETF platform, surpassed $1 billion (approximately 1.5154 trillion won) in total value locked (TVL) and offers more than 260 tokenized securities. Cumulative trading volume exceeded $18 billion (approximately 27.2772 trillion won).
Tokenization is a technology that issues existing financial assets in the form of blockchain-based digital tokens. Tokenized ETFs are issued with actual ETFs as collateral but are traded on the blockchain, enabling 24-hour trading and near-real-time settlement (T+0).
Through this partnership, Mirae Asset Global Investments will become the first Asian asset manager to pursue tokenization of its listed ETF product lineup. The company will start with US-listed ETFs and then expand the scope of tokenized assets to Canada, Europe, Australia, Japan, and Hong Kong. It also plans to review tokenization of various asset classes including commodities in the future.
Ian De Bode, CEO of Ondo Finance, stated, "Mirae Asset is a top-tier global asset manager operating a diverse range of ETF products. Mirae Asset's decision to provide ETFs on-chain through Ondo Global Markets demonstrates that institutional investors' entry into the tokenization market is expanding."
Kim Young-hwan, President of Mirae Asset Global Investments' Global Business Division, said, "Tokenization is a core technology that will change the paradigm of the asset management industry. Through cooperation with Ondo Finance, we will expand our global ETF lineup to fit next-generation capital market infrastructure and provide efficient investment solutions utilizing blockchain technology."
