Microsoft Sued by Shareholders Over Azure Growth Slowdown and Rising AI Costs on June 12

According to Reuters, on June 12, shareholders led by the City of St. Clair Shores Police and Fire Retirement System sued Microsoft in Seattle federal court, alleging the company concealed slowing growth in Azure and rising AI infrastructure costs. The suit pointed to Microsoft's January 28 earnings report showing Azure revenue growth decelerated to 39% in the December quarter from 40% previously, while capital spending reached $37.5 billion. Following the earnings announcement, Microsoft shares fell 10% on January 29, erasing approximately $357 billion in market value—the company's largest one-day decline in nearly six years. The complaint also alleged Microsoft failed to disclose Copilot adoption challenges and had sold only 15 million paid Microsoft 365 Copilot seats. CEO Satya Nadella and CFO Amy Hood are named as defendants. Microsoft said the claims lack merit.
