Japanese bitcoin treasury firm Metaplanet agreed to fully acquire Siiibo Securities, a licensed Type I securities firm, for 2.1 billion yen ($13 million), CEO Simon Gerovich announced Friday on X. The deal is expected to close in July this year and forms part of Metaplanet's 'Project Nova,' a strategy to build a bitcoin-centric financial ecosystem in Japan. The acquisition enables Metaplanet to develop and distribute bitcoin-linked yield products directly to Japanese investors, supported by the company's 40,177 BTC holdings. Japanese households held 1,140 trillion yen ($7.1 trillion) in cash and deposits at the end of 2025, accounting for 48.5% of total financial assets according to Bank of Japan data released in March, as the country shifts from deflation to inflation.

Metaplanet Announces First Major Acquisition Under Project Nova

Metaplanet plans to rebrand Siiibo Securities as Metaplanet Securities following the July closing. Gerovich stated this marks "Metaplanet's first major acquisition and the first concrete step in Project Nova, our long-term strategy to build a Bitcoin-centric financial ecosystem in Japan."

Integrating Siiibo's securities business allows Metaplanet to expand beyond bitcoin accumulation into investor-facing financial products. "By bringing Siiibo's Type I registration and online securities platform into the group, we will develop and distribute bitcoin-related yield products directly to Japanese investors," Gerovich said.

Gerovich stated in a separate statement that the company's mission is "to deliver new yield-generating opportunities through a bitcoin-centric financial platform, and to build, from Japan, a financial ecosystem that unites bitcoin with traditional finance."
