MAS Head Highlights AI Valuation Risk: Returns Highly Uncertain Despite Growing Adoption

According to Monetary Authority of Singapore Managing Director Tharman Shanmugaratnam on June 17, global equity valuations are highly dependent on artificial intelligence, but revenue returns from AI remain subject to significant uncertainty. He noted that energy and semiconductor costs are also rising sharply, creating additional market risks. Speaking at the 2026 Lujiazui Forum, Shanmugaratnam emphasized that stronger fiscal and monetary policy coordination, as well as enhanced prudential financial regulation, are needed to mitigate external shocks.
