Mainland Man Detained in Hong Kong on May 14 After Crypto Loss of About $70,000 USD

According to Hong Kong media outlet Hong Kong Eastweek, cited by ChainCatcher, a 34-year-old mainland man was detained on May 14 around 12:30 p.m. in Central after trading losses of approximately 500,000 Chinese yuan on a cryptocurrency platform. Authorities intercepted him at a fast-food restaurant on Des Voeux Road after he posted about suicidal thoughts on social media. Police found a lighter and suspected gasoline on him and arrested him on suspicion of “possession of any article with intent to destroy or damage property.” He remains under investigation.
