Lazarus Group Deploys Fileless RemotePE RAT, Steals $577M in Crypto Assets in First Four Months of 2026

According to Cryptopolitan, the North Korea-linked hacking group Lazarus deployed a new fileless remote access trojan (RAT) called RemotePE on May 26 to attack cryptocurrency companies and banks. The malware operates entirely in memory, making it difficult for traditional antivirus and forensic tools to detect. Lazarus stole approximately $577 million in crypto assets in the first four months of 2026, accounting for 76% of global crypto theft during that period. The group has accumulated over $6 billion in stolen assets since 2017.
