According to the UK Labour Party, Reform UK leader Nigel Farage has been accused of "evading reasonable scrutiny" over a £5 million ($6.7 million) personal gift from crypto billionaire Christopher Harborne, who holds a 12% stake in Tether. Labour Chair Anna Turley wrote to Farage on Wednesday following Prime Minister Keir Starmer's challenge during PMQs, where Starmer asked why Farage kept the gift "secret in the first place." Turley stated that "the British people deserve one clear and truthful account" and accused Farage of dodging questions and changing his story.
The parliamentary standards commissioner launched a formal inquiry into the donation last month after the Conservative Party referred the matter. Farage has offered two conflicting explanations: first describing it as funding for personal security, later calling it a "reward" for his Brexit work. He has maintained he was under "no obligation" to declare the gift.
