KOSPI Average Daily Swing Hits 401 Points Since May, Exceeds Nasdaq's 392-Point Range

According to Korea Exchange data, KOSPI's average daily volatility since May has exceeded the U.S. Nasdaq index, with the South Korean benchmark recording 401-point swings compared to Nasdaq's 392 points. On June 23, KOSPI hit a historic single-day swing of 971.61 points. Circuit breakers and side-car mechanisms were triggered 37 and 7 times respectively in 2026, marking record highs. Analysts note KOSPI's perceived volatility is three times higher than Nasdaq when adjusted for index levels, despite KOSPI's absolute value being one-third that of Nasdaq.
