Japan's Food Price Growth Expected to Accelerate This Summer

GateNews
According to Taro Saito, chief economist at Nippon Life Insurance Foundation Research Institute, Japan's food price growth, which has slowed since last year, is expected to accelerate around summer. Saito noted that after sustained inflation since 2022, Japanese companies have become more proactive in raising prices. Core consumer inflation—excluding fresh food—is forecast to rise from 1.4% in April to above 2.0% during the summer months, driven by surging crude oil costs.
