Israeli Defense Minister States Current Lebanon Situation May Pave Path to Peace Deal on June 4

According to Jin10, Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Katz stated on June 4 that the current situation in Lebanon may create conditions for Israel and Lebanon to reach a peace agreement. The two nations recently agreed to a statement of principles under U.S. mediation in Washington, which reflects developments on the ground in southern Lebanon, including progress in disarming Hezbollah, withdrawing its forces north of the Litani River, and establishing a demilitarized zone.

Katz emphasized that Israel will not rely on any other party for its security. He added that the emerging situation could lay the groundwork for a future peace agreement and potentially provide Israel's northern residents with genuine and lasting security guarantees for the first time in nearly 50 years. Israeli military spokesperson confirmed that fighting in southern Lebanon continues.
