Iran's Central Bank Governor Says Country Has No Obligation to Buy U.S. Agricultural Products

According to Iran's Tasnim News Agency, Iran's Central Bank Governor Hemmati stated on June 23 that Iran has no obligation to use unfrozen funds to purchase U.S. agricultural products, responding to U.S. President Trump's claim that the funds should be used entirely for buying American farm products. Under a memorandum of understanding signed between Iran and the U.S., Hemmati said the first $6 billion in unfrozen funds will be used in accordance with a 2023 agreement between the two countries, with purposes including purchasing essential goods and medicines.
