Iran Condemns Ukrainian Attack on Caspian Sea Merchant Vessel; One Dead, One Wounded

According to Iran's Foreign Ministry, on July 25, Ukrainian forces attacked an Iranian commercial vessel in the Caspian Sea, killing one person and wounding another. Iran characterized the attack as an "act of aggression" and vowed to "decisively defend" its interests and security, accusing Ukraine of attempting to expand the scope of the Russia-Ukraine conflict. Iran warned that Ukraine's government and its supporters would face consequences for the attack.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated the same day that Ukrainian forces had struck a Russian warship and several vessels in the Caspian Sea carrying military supplies "related to Iran."
