IBM CEO Questions $8T Industry Capital Spend on AGI, Cites Impossibility of Investment Returns

According to ChainCatcher, IBM Chief Executive Officer Arvind Krishna recently questioned competitors' massive capital expenditures on pursuing artificial general intelligence (AGI). Krishna estimated that building a 1-gigawatt data center costs approximately $80 billion; deploying 100 gigawatts of computing power industry-wide for AGI would require $8 trillion in total capital expenditure. He argued that companies would need to generate $800 billion in profit merely to cover interest payments, making the investment financially unfeasible from a business perspective. Krishna also stated the probability of achieving AGI using current large language model (LLM) technology is extremely low at 0-1% without fundamental breakthroughs in knowledge-LLM integration.
