HSBC: US Dollar Fails to Benefit From Hawkish Rate Shift

US3.63%
According to HSBC analysts in a report on June 12, the US dollar exchange rate is currently below the level implied by market expectations for US interest rates. The analysts noted that as market expectations shifted recently from anticipated rate cuts toward potential rate hikes, the dollar's response has been limited. They attribute this to the US's accommodative financial environment and market expectations of a resolution to Middle East tensions. The analysts stated that the dollar needs clear monetary policy stimulus; if the Federal Reserve fails to support rate hike expectations at next week's meeting, the dollar "may face headwinds."
