Goldman Sachs: 2026 World Cup to Add 40,000 U.S. Jobs in June, Followed by Post-Tournament Decline

According to Goldman Sachs, the 2026 FIFA World Cup starting June 11 is expected to add 40,000 jobs in the United States during June and another 10,000 in July, driven by demand across hospitality, retail, and transportation sectors across 11 major metropolitan areas. However, employment gains will reverse after the tournament ends on July 19, with 15,000 job losses predicted in August. The bank estimates 5 to 6 million fans will attend 78 matches hosted across the U.S., Mexico, and Canada, boosting June retail sales by an additional 0.3 percentage point and adding 0.1 percentage point to second-quarter U.S. GDP growth. Goldman Sachs also projects the influx will temporarily raise core CPI by 0.03 percentage point and core PCE by 0.04 percentage point in June, primarily due to increased demand for accommodations, dining, and transportation services.
