According to NPR reporting, George Santos publicly stated he would attend the State of the Union from the gallery the day before the speech, pushing odds of his attendance on Kalshi prediction market to around 75 percent. He did not show. Before his absence, Santos placed a bet against his own attendance and pocketed a profit in the tens of thousands, the report said.
Kalshi detected the activity, froze Santos's account, and referred the matter to the CFTC and Department of Justice, according to two people familiar with the investigation. Santos previously had his 87-month sentence for wire fraud and identity theft commuted by Trump after serving four months.
