According to Beating Monitoring, Gabriel Petersson, a research scientist on OpenAI's Sora video generation team, recently announced his departure from OpenAI to launch an independent startup. The 22-year-old Swedish engineer, who dropped out of high school and is self-taught in machine learning, stated he aims to build his final product before artificial general intelligence (AGI) arrives and is entering what he calls "founder mode." Petersson joined OpenAI as a research scientist in late 2024 after gaining experience at Midjourney and Dataland, where he impressed founders through demo-driven development without relying on traditional credentials.
